Today’s Hilton Head real estate spotlight is on the luxury community of Long Cove. Long Cove is a private golf community located on the island that is totally residential. It has excellent amenities and offers some special qualities not often found in island living.

My Favorite Things about Long Cove…

Again, I have asked two good friends to assist me in presenting this article. They are Paul Moeri and Bob Mason. Paul and his wife, Holly, purchased their home in Long Cove in 2004 and became permanent residents in 2010. Bob and Eloise became members in 2002 when they purchased their lot and built their residence in 2006. Both couples enjoy the Long Cove lifestyle and have kindly shared their insights with us.

Bob: “My first favorite thing about living in Long Cove Club is the warm feelings of community. The people care about and support each other beyond the norm.” There are numerous examples of this but friends tend to become the local family.

“Our amenities are terrific! We have a world class golf course by Pete Dye, the best tennis courts on Hilton Head Island, fantastic boating on the Intra-coastal Waterway, and a new, spacious clubhouse that is booked solid with events and activities.” Residents can have a full and active social calendar.

The location is great – convenient to all the beaches and the best the island has to offer, but away from the bustle of tourist activities. Residents can readily enjoy the finest in island living with full privacy once inside the gates.

“We play hard, enjoy each others company, and have a daily life that is just plain fun! Retirement is better than ever” and Long Cove is the ideal place to do just that.

Paul: The residents of Long Cove have “a great sense of community. Long Cove is the only plantation with its own charity that has been in existence for 12 years now, and has become the model for all other plantations.” Donations are made by the residents and distributed to qualified charities throughout the Lowcountry. Participation is both easy and optional and is a great way to give back to the community.

This isn’t the only focus in charitable work within Long Cove. “One of the founders of Memory Matters lives here along with numerous supporters at Volunteers in Medicine, Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, and 1st Tee, to name a few.” These people donate their time and expertise along with financial support enriching the island community in many ways.

To the point, recently, a couple was in need for health reasons. The community came together the very next day and volunteered to drive, prepare food, and do anything necessary to assist their friends. Literally, “people were pushing to get on the list.” Guess you could say this is what being neighborly is really about.

“The amenities (at Long Cove) are world class.” The Pete Dye Signature Golf Course “is among the top 25 community golf courses in USA and we never tire of playing it.” The community supports improvements as needed to keep the high standards for which it is known. In addition to golf, there is a private marina, great tennis center, community gardens for resident’s use and pool. The clubhouse has been recently renovated and expanded and is an ideal gathering space for its members.

“Above all, the fees are most reasonable for value received.” There is a “strong sense for service and continuous improvement from staff” which adds to the overall club experience.

“When we purchased and even today, the key words to describe Long Cove Club are understated elegance and the community strives to keep it that way. We have never regretted our decision in choosing Long Cove for our residence and would encourage others to consider this very welcoming community.”
