Resort lifestyle at Harbour Town

The onset of baby boomers looking for the next chapter of life has brought about changes in today’s retirement lifestyle.  A recent Harvard University study revealed that Americans are living longer and enjoy a more active and healthier lifestyle than previous generations.

There is no “one-size fits all” approach to offering the ideal home or community in today’s market.   Each person brings with them a personal idea of how they want to spend their next years.  However, there are a few trends that are noteworthy.

While luxury has always been identified in many ways, luxury living is an important facet of the young retirees.  They want to live where they can feel like they are on vacation every day.  The property itself must be current or updated with modern technology and appointments.  While many have no intention of cooking often, they want spectacular kitchens that are gathering spaces for friends and family.

Some buyers will choose a totally resort-style community with entertainment, abundant activities, and great dining options, while others are anxious to have a laidback, more residential setting.   Convenience is a must for shopping, movies, salons, churches, learning opportunities and easy access to a variety of restaurants ranging from gourmet to casual cafes.

Another option is choosing a community with golf, tennis, and clubs as part of the purchase.  These communities are typically gated and are continually updated to have clubhouses and activity centers that will appeal to the upscale buyers who want great leisure time sports and social opportunities.  Fortunately, these are available in multiple price points ensuring numerous options for those who are relocating.

The best advice is to think about what is important to you in making your decision.  What is an ideal vacation for you?  What things are important to you in your home?  Do you like to be outdoors participating in a variety of activities or just relaxing when you have extra time?  Do you want island life near the beach or are you willing to drive a short distance to enjoy the sun and surf?  Are you looking for privacy or nearby neighbors?  What is your view preference?

These are just some of the things worth considering.  Honestly, there is something here in the Lowcountry for everyone.  It is easy to make friends and find like-minded people with similar interests, so we invite you to come and discover your next chapter.
